Animal Rescue Foundation Hosts Adopt-a-Mom Adopt-a-thon
Event finds homes for orphaned cats

(MEDIA) May 5, 2006 – Animal Rescue Foundation of SE PA, Inc. (ARF) is hosting an “Adopt-a-Mom Adopt-a-thon” this Mother’s Day and lasting for the duration of May.

“Many mother cats give birth to kittens in shelters at this time of year.  The kittens are adopted, then the mom is left behind,” says ARF volunteer Jen Coccodrilli.  “Many cats are then euthanized when shelters run out of kennel space.”

“Everyone wants kittens this time of year, but the moms need homes too,” continues Coccodrilli.

ARF rescues cats and dogs from public shelters, and all pets reside with a foster family in a home until adopted.  The goal of the adopt-a-thon is to find homes for as many mom cats as possible during May.

“We’re offering free microchipping to any person that adopts a mom cat from ARF,” continues Coccodrilli.  “It’s a great offer.  For a $100 donation you’ll adopt a wonderful kitty that comes with complete veterinary records, is already spay/neutered and has a permanent ID tag in case she’s ever lost.”

Microchipping is a permanent ID tag implanted in a pet’s neck.  Adopters register contact information on the chip, and if the pet is ever picked up by animal control, the pet is scanned and the owner’s contact information is revealed.

“Microchipping costs $35 or more at a vet’s office, and we’re offering it free to anyone who adopts a mom from ARF in May,” adds ARF volunteer Theresa Impriano.  “You also get the satisfaction of knowing that when you adopt a cat, you save a life.”

ARF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving southeastern PA.  Interested parties can contact ARF at (610)994-4300 or at www.arfsepa.com to visit ARF pets online.
