ARF SEPA is an all-volunteer organization that utilizes a foster home network to house pets versus a traditional shelter building. This keeps administrative costs very low. We have no salaries to pay and little to no overhead expenses. Funding directly benefits homeless and at-risk pets. ARF SEPA is a private nonprofit organization and not part of any other shelter, SPCA or group. We rely solely on donations from the public.
As an all-volunteer organization, we rely on our volunteers to fulfill many different positions.
Foster homes: ARF's central location is online. This means we do not have a facility in which to house animals or maintain. All of our animals reside in foster homes. This allows us to truly know an animal's personality and quirks before adopting it out. The more foster homes we have, the more animals we can rescue. The length of time an animal is in foster care varies greatly. We ask our foster families to take care of the animal as their own until it is adopted. We also have a need for short term fosters. These foster homes cover vacations or are available in case of emergency. Typically short term foster homes will house the animal for up to two weeks.
Outreach volunteers: We have a great need for people to help with outreach events. These are events where we can showcase available animals and raise awareness of ARF. We always need people willing to engage the public and talk about the great work ARF does and promote our animals.
Fundraising volunteers: Fundraising is an important part of ARF as we get no state or federal funding. We try to host quarterly fundraisers and small events culminating with our largest event towards the end of November.
Intake Counselors: Foster families don't always have the time to find new animals to foster or have difficulty walking into public shelters. The intake counselors would be in contact with local shelters and would periodically go in to them to search for animals that would be good for ARF fosters. Intake Counselors should have animal handling experience.
Adoption Counselors: These's volunteers would help in the adoption process when necessary. Often they would accompany the foster family on home visits and/or help with animal meet and greets.
We also have a need for volunteers with marketing, technology, organizational, and computer skills. If you can think of any other way to help ARF please don't hesitate to contact us, we're always happy to expand the ARF family.
